St. Moses' Mart
"If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness."
— Isaiah 58:10
St. Moses Mart is a 16,000 sq. ft. Orthodox Christian food bank and chapel rising in the heart of Shreveport's MLK Jr. neighborhood — transforming a community hub of nourishment, self-improvement, and prayer for those in need.
A New Vision

What was once Lo-Mart Grocery Store — a neighborhood institution founded in 1975 in the MLK Jr. / Cooper Road area of Shreveport, Louisiana — is being reborn as something beneficial for the community. St. Moses' Mart is a 16,000 square foot facility being transformed, by the grace of God and the generosity of so many, into a community food market, an educational center, and place of prayer.
St. Moses' Mart currently operates under the 501(c)(3) nonprofit umbrella of Holy Nativity of the Lord Orthodox Church (EIN 11-2654661). St. Moses' Mart is in the process of applying for its own independent 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. All donations made to St. Moses' Mart are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law and are designated for the support and development of St. Moses' Mart and its charitable activities.
We have partnered with the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank to distribute an estimated 1,000,000 pounds of free food annually — fresh produce, canned goods, dairy, meats, and more — to those who qualify.
Mission & Faith
Children in many areas of Shreveport face significant food insecurity, with many lacking consistent access to nutritious meals needed for healthy growth, learning, and overall development.
The Orthodox Chapel of St. Simon of Cyrene provides a sacred space for prayer and healing of the soul.
Being designed to distribute over 1,000,000 pounds of food annually in conjunction with our partner the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank - produce, meats, dairy, and more.
Health and wellness educational room being designed to teach classes on nutrition and other life skills.

St. Moses the Black
Born in Ethiopia, Moses was a former slave and robber chief who experienced a radical conversion and became one of the greatest Desert Fathers of the Egyptian wilderness. His life — from violence and hardship to profound holiness — makes him the perfect patron for a mission that meets people where they are, without judgment.
His famous saying, "If we are merciful to others, God will be merciful to us," reflects the Orthodox conviction that transformation comes through humility, prayer, and faithful service — exactly the spirit of St. Moses Mart.

No One Turned Away
Chapel

Chapel of St. Simon of Cyrene
Within the walls of St. Moses Mart, a chapel is being established and dedicated to St. Simon of Cyrene — the man compelled to carry the cross of Christ on the road to Calvary. Like Simon, we are called to bear one another's burdens.
Father Jason envisions a space where the ancient liturgical tradition of the Orthodox Church is celebrated in the midst of a community food bank — where prayer and the feeding of the hungry are integrated to a holistic approach to ministry, as it was in the earliest Christian communities.
The chapel will be open during hours of operation for those who want to pray. Chapel attendance will never be a requirement to receive any assistance from St. Moses’ Mart.
"The chapel and the food mart are not two separate things. They synergistically form one mission — to love God and to love our neighbor. You cannot do one without the other."
